The Abundance of Less – One of a Kind Japandi Tiny Home
Sold Owner – Michael
Santa Fe, New Mexico | Custom Builder-Built THOW | Two Sleeping Lofts | Ready to Transport
Some tiny homes are designed simply to fit everything into a smaller footprint.
The Abundance of Less was designed to make less feel extraordinary.
Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, this custom tiny home on wheels combines the warmth of natural wood with the clean simplicity of Japanese and Scandinavian-inspired Japandi design. From its Japanese style entryway and handcrafted cabinetry to its cedar ceilings and thoughtfully integrated storage, every part of this tiny home was created to feel peaceful, functional and genuinely special.
This is not a mass produced model. It was built by Michael, a craftsman who has completed three tiny homes and has lived tiny himself for approximately three years. His firsthand experience is reflected throughout the home in the way it uses space, the materials he selected and the small details that make daily life more comfortable.
A Rare Japanese Inspired Entryway
Step through the custom sliding French entry door into one of the home’s most distinctive features: a Japanese inspired Genkan vestibule with a Tokonoma style alcove.
Instead of opening directly into the living area, the vestibule creates a welcoming place to remove shoes and transition into the home. It also provides an additional weather and temperature break between the outdoors and the main living space.
The custom solid Douglas fir door features ten panes of glass and slides along the interior wall, preserving valuable floor space while adding warmth and architectural character.
Warm Natural Materials and Custom Craftsmanship
The interior is filled with natural materials that make the home feel warm without taking away from its clean, minimalist design.
Features include:
Solid spruce tongue and groove flooring
Cedar clad ceilings
Custom woodwork throughout
Floating cabinetry with sliding doors
Oak veneer kitchen drawers
Integrated storage
Custom lighting in the vestibule, kitchen, alcove and front porch
Eight JELD-WEN double pane, high altitude windows bring natural light throughout the home.
Outside, corrugated metal roofing and siding are paired with Western Red Cedar accents for a distinctive contemporary exterior.
A Kitchen Designed for Real Use
The kitchen balances beautiful materials with practical details designed around everyday cooking.
Solid birch butcher block countertops provide a warm, generous work surface alongside a porcelain tile backsplash, two burner LP gas cooktop and twin fan range hood.
Dedicated appliance spaces help preserve the countertops, including a custom under counter alcove for a Breville toaster oven and a refrigerator area designed to accommodate different refrigerator sizes.
The contemporary single basin sink also includes:
An integrated dish rack
A built in drip tray
Cutting boards stored in custom tracks behind the faucet
The home’s upgraded 50 amp electrical service offers added capacity for appliances such as an electric kettle, rice cooker, toaster oven and additional electric heating.
Two Lofts and Storage Where It Matters
The home includes two separate lofts, giving the next owner flexibility to create a primary sleeping space, guest loft, office, reading retreat or additional storage.
Primary loft: approximately 72 sq. ft.
Secondary loft: approximately 56 sq. ft.
Main level: approximately 200 sq. ft.
Custom loft steps provide additional built in storage while maintaining the home’s clean design.
The living area will also include custom sofa/settee cushions, and the buyer may select the upholstery fabric, color or design.
A Handcrafted, Residential Style Bathroom
The bathroom was given the same attention as the rest of the home and feels intentional rather than squeezed into the floor plan.
It features:
Residential-style flushing toilet
32-inch shower
Exposed copper shower fixture
Redwood shower grate
Custom solid-oak towel and toilet-paper hardware
Softly diffused vanity lighting
Rinnai LP tankless water heater
PEX plumbing
Integrated cartridge water filter
Designed for a Dedicated Tiny-Home Site
The Abundance of Less is designed for a buyer planning a more established tiny home placement.
Water connects to an external source through a hose or hard connection. ABS drain lines are designed to connect to a septic system or municipal sewer. The home does not have onboard fresh, gray or black water tanks.
Power is supplied through 50-amp service with six interior branch circuits.
A 1,000-watt electric wall heater is installed, and the electrical system offers capacity for additional electric heating. There is currently no installed air-conditioning system, but the primary loft includes a removable panel and alcove designed to accommodate a window A/C solution.
Solar is not currently installed.
Built on a Heavy-Duty Foundation
The timber frame home sits on a custom Trailer Made heavy duty triple axle chassis. The existing listing identifies an 18,000-lb GVWR and an estimated current home weight of approximately 12,000 lbs.
Insulation includes approximately:
R-13 walls
R-13 ceiling
R-19 subfloor
A thermal break was also incorporated between the home and chassis.
Ready for Its Next Owner
The home is currently located in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is available for open-house visits and private showings.
It is ready to transport immediately, although there is no urgent deadline requiring the buyer to remove it right away.
The builder is also open to discussing certain buyer-selected finishing touches and potential customizations—an uncommon opportunity to add your own style to a nearly completed, one-of-a-kind custom home.
